The screen size is slightly larger than most other eReaders on the market; it is a 7 inch display. Another difference is the backlighting on the reader. It is an LCD color screen rather than an E-ink screen. This means that it can be seen similar to a computer monitor; you will be able to see it in the dark without a problem.

The SYNTEX Primer has a 2 GB Flash drive connected to it, which means that you can get around 2000 E-books onto your device. You will never get through all of them in one trip but in case you really are an avid reader, there is also a slot for a micro SD card, which can support up to an extra 16 GB of space; an extra 16,000 E-books!

You can also connect to FM radio and listen while you are on the move. The speakers are clear and you can also add headphones to be able to listen and not disturb others. There is also a slot to add a microphone.

The E-reader can support a variety of different formats for E-books, including ePUB, PDF and txt. However, the battery life will last for around 10 hours, which is much less than other devices out there; remember that this is a LCD color screen though.

There is a keypad on the front of the E-reader, along with a navigation menu. All the page turn buttons are on the right hand side, rather than each side depending on the way that you want to turn the pages.

The Reviews

It is important to consider the good and the bad of the SYNTEX Primer so that a well informed decision can be made when it comes to buying your E-reader. Everybody is different so you will need to decide whether the pros and cons are something that will make a difference for you.

The main pro is the fact that it is an LCD screen. This allows reading in the dark without the need for a light. It is also what most people are used to viewing, since that is what most computer monitors are now made with. The LCD allows for a quicker refresh rate, which means pages can be turned much quicker. It also helps with the aid of watching videos or playing games.

You can add music to the E-reader and listen while you are reading. If you do not want to listen to your own music, you can listen to the radio. All of this can be done through headphones so you are not disturbing anybody around you. If you do not want to read and just want to listen to music, you can do that with this device. Video is also fully supported and the screen is excellent for the video playback.

You can bookmark your pages with ease without the need of the wireless, which is something that the Kindle cannot do. You can also page jump if you want to quickly get through a number of pages, although the refresh rate is excellent.

There is also the ability to record onto this E-reader, which is excellent for students who want to be able to record their classes while they are there. It also helps for people to record notes into their E-reader quickly but you will need to buy a microphone for this.

The price is relatively low for an E-reader too. It is much lower than some of its competitors and the E-reader has a number of advantages that others do not have. However, it also has a number of disadvantages that others do not have too.

The main negative for the E-reader is the battery life. When you use it continuously, you are looking at only 10 hours of use. This is much lower than many other E-readers out there. However, something that you do have to remember is that the LCD screen will usually use up more power than many others. You can also view videos and listen to music while reading. Another problem is that the battery can take around 4 hours to fully recharge.

Notes cannot be made on the E-books, which is one disadvantage for students. It will mean that paper and pens are still needed for classes to be able to take notes. This can also cause a problem when there are changes to textbooks, since the changes cannot be made directly on the screen.

There is no WiFi available on the SYNTAX Primer, which can put many at a disadvantage. You cannot download books on the move and you need to connect to a computer to be able to transfer new books – unless they are all on an SD card.

In Conclusion

While the LCD screen is much better for reading, especially in the dark, it does not hide the fact that there are problems. The battery is very short and takes much longer to charge than many of its rivals and notes cannot be made on the E-books.

However, it does support a variety of files, which means that not too much conversion is needed. You can download many free E-books in PDF or txt format so you can definitely enjoy plenty. The E-reader also comes with pre-loaded E-books, which could be extremely interesting.

This is great if you enjoy listening to music while reading but is not the best for students who want to make notes at the same time.
