With the introduction of E-readers, many companies are looking for ways to offer something different and exciting. While Amazon has turned to making larger E-readers, Barnes and Noble have turned to focusing on offering color. This is great, especially when it comes to children books.

The full-color NOOK is slightly larger than its black and white version, offering a 7 inch screen rather than 6 inches. It is compatible with books, newspapers and magazines and can offer easier reading.

There are different sections for the books and there is even a kids section, since this is what the color is able to offer more for. The pictures become more lifelike and stand out much clearer than if they were in black and white.

With the WiFi available, it is possible to check your emails while you are moving around. The full-color NOOK is becoming a tablet in an E-reader. All of this is shown within the price, which is very expensive for a normal E-reader.

The E-reader is able to offer everything that the normal Barnes and Noble NOOK Reader is able to offer. You can still access the Barnes and Noble store from your own reader and you can also share titles with friends that you are connected to. You can also type on the device and find titles easily and quickly, along with being able to make notes on the book.

The full color NOOK works with video, which works to add video tutorials to your NOOK. You can learn in a variety of different ways. You can also add music and play games on the device. All of it is done in color so you will feel like you are at your computer.

You are able to sync the NOOK to your computer or your phone. It makes it possible to read anywhere and with anything. You can also bookmark you pages so you can jump straight to the place that you finished reading at. This bookmark stays up to date no matter what type of device you are reading from.

The Reviews

When it comes to searching for a device, it is best to consider all of the positive and negative aspects of the device. This will make it possible to make a full decision over whether it is worth spending money on the device and whether it is able to offer everything that you need rather than what the person next door needs.

The main positive is the size and the hard drive capability. There is up to an 8 GB hard drive available, which means that you can store around 8000 books. This will be made smaller when you start adding music, games and videos but it gives you a good idea. There is also an SD card, which makes it possible to have another 16 GB of space available to use.

There is Internet available, which means that not only can you download new books while on the move, you can also check your Email. The whole Internet side has been updated with the full-color version of the NOOK and you are able to browse more. It helps when watching videos and playing games.

The touch screen makes it much easier to do any searches, whether on your NOOK or within the Internet. It also makes the navigation much easier. You can quickly type in a title to the internet and find it on the Barnes and Noble site. You can also have your own personal library. This is great if you want to read lots or whether you are a student and need lots of text books available to you.

Typing on the screen also makes it possible to add notes to E-books that are on there. This is extremely advantageous when it comes to making notes in a class and wanting to write on the book rather than a scrap piece of paper.

There is a personal shopping experience linked with the Barnes and Noble books that you download. Like Amazon and many other sites, you will be offered recommendations based on your current reading and downloading. Working in conjunction with friends recommending you titles, you will never have to do lots of searches to find something interesting.

Of course, there are some negatives to the full-color Barnes and Nobel NOOK reader. The first is that is can be extremely overwhelming; unfortunately this was not changed from the original version. There is a lot to get your head around and it can mean a lot of checks with the user guide. Once you do understand the way it works, you will be able to sail through the user guide.

The extra parts added to the color version means that the price is high. It can mean that it is unaffordable to students and families, who the device is marketed towards. However, it is definitely worth saving the money for.

A lot of the space can be taken up by items that already come pre-loaded. This will include videos, music and even games. It can take away from the primary reason for having an E-reader and means that there is less space for all of your favorite books. There is one SD slot available but there are no USB ports to be able to connect to your computer or an external device.

The WiFi can mean that the battery runs down much quicker. It is not as good as that of the black and white version. However, this may be something worth sacrificing and it does not cut the battery down too much. You will still get at least a week of continuous use from your NOOK.

In Conclusion

The device is great is you want something for your children or a student. The color helps to bring the stories to life and the video aspect makes tutorials much easier to follow. The main problem is the price but it is a great value for your money considering how much extra you are getting; it becomes more like a tablet rather than just an E-reader.
